WRITING
In addition to drawing art, I also do creative writing and comic book journalism on fan sites Dark Knight News and Fantastic Universes.
I also have contributed a long-form essay in the book Comics Lit Vol.1.
Comics Lit Vol. 1
Comics Lit Vol. 1
is a collection of essays edited by AR Farina and Tonya Todd. The book
compares comic book characters to those from mythology, classic
literature, and religion. I wrote the essay Strangers in Strange Lands: Comparing Superman to Moses. It will be available at book retailers on October 2, 2024. You can pre-order Comics Lit Vol. 1 in paperback, hardback, or digital here.

Creative Writing
I have written the entirety my web comic The Breakup Artist. It is my first commitment to writing an entire long story from start to finish. Here is a sample of my script for the comic to get an idea of my writing.
You can read the finished chapter here.

1 Ezra: ...I swear, I was this close to recommending my project manager to fire him.
2 Jun: Wow. That guy sounds like the worst.
3 So why don’t you just do it?
PAGE 28
1 Ezra (fiddling with his food): Yeah. I mean… I don’t know.
2 I don’t really want to do that.
3 Jun: Why not? This Jeffrey guy totally deserves it from what you’re saying.
4 Ezra: Maybe.
5 Jun: Definitely.
PAGE 29
1 Ezra, can I be totally truthful with you?
2 You’re being way too nice.
3 Here you are, complaining to me, but you won’t even consider firing him?
4 Ezra: I don’t want to go there.
5 I still think I could change his ways. It’s possible for him to still turn it around.
PAGE 30
1 Jun: Wow. That’s… certainly an optimistic way of thinking.
2 Ezra: Why?
3 Jun: Because people don’t change. Period. Not in any meaningful way at least.
4 Ezra: You’ve changed since high school
PAGE 31
1 Jun (sigh): that’s debatable.
2 Ezra: Well I believe you have.
3 Jun: My point is, you’re too nice towards people who may not deserve it.
4 Ezra: I can be mean too.
PAGE 32
1 Jun (laughs; Ezra is embarrassed; disbelieving): Haha!
2 I’m sorry! I’m not laughing at you, Ezra!
PAGE 33
1 You’re more like that sweet, little teddy bear that everybody loves to cuddle, but you’re not intimidating.
2 Ezra: I’m not passive.
3 I just believe that people deserve second chances.
PAGE 34
1 Jun: You can’t seriously believe that, can you?
2 If you saw that tight shirt guy again, would you forgive him for beating you up?
3 Or even better, how about that drunk driver who killed your dad?
4 Does he deserve a second chance?
PAGE 35
1 Ezra (fumes; then sags shoulders): Sigh. No….
2 Probably not.
3 Jun (quickly realizes her mistake): See my point?
4 Not everybody’s like you. I don’t want others taking advantage of you.
1 Ezra (disappointed): Yeah...
2 (gets up) I’m pretty tired and I gotta drive all the way back to San Jose.
3 I uh, could call you a car if you need.
4 Jun (guilty): No, I’m fine.
PAGE 37
1 Ezra (begins to walk off; turns with sagging shoulders and a weak smile): You’re right. I know I need to be more aggressive or whatever. I’m trying.
2 But I just can’t turn off who I am.
3 And, um, and I, uh... I meant to say “yes”
4 Jun: What?
PAGE 38
1 Ezra: I meant to say, “Yes, even that guy who killed my dad deserves a second chance”.
2 (small font) I just wished I didn’t feel like I had to lie about it.
(Ezra walks off; Jun’s sitting on a bench)
